I have read all the previous posts regarding the Austrian toll road situation. I need to get from Ulm to Bardolino soon and see that I have the choice of the (expensive) toll road or possibly the free old road.

I'm in a max 5 tonne tag axle van.

What is the old road like? Has anyone used it recently?

Once over the border I'll take the Italian toll road down to Bardolino.

Hi

I am guessing you are coming from Germany (Ulm)?

The road the runs parallel to the motorway towards Innsbruck in Austria is (I think) toll free. Is it the 171 through Telfs and so on?

I have done this in a coach without issue. If I can lay my hands on my old diaries at the weekend, I can tell you the journey time. Note though, this was in December 1998 and December 2000 so the toll postion may well have changed.

Russell
