HP Grrrr printer pain.

Maybe someone far more understanding than I can throw light or advice on my present problem.

My HP PSC F4180 has been working well for several years. Apart from the odd conflict with MS Word.

Recently HP offered an update that was supposed to cure this conflict with Word so I followed the procedure.

Dunno if it has in fact cured said problem but now I have another problem caused I suspect by the update.

At 'boot-up' my PC now gets a message it's installing new drivers for an HP product. I click OK and it puts another copy version of my printer onto my PC.

Now when I click 'print' it loads my print queue into a non default copy of my printer. I then either have to change the default over and over again or start deleting the latest copies of loaded printers.

Help ............ please.

Uninstall all the instances of the printer, including the original, and then re-install it.

If it's a usb printer ensure you always connect it to the same usb port, as when it's connected to a different port it will be seen as a different device.

See if hp have released a new version of the driver that includes the update and install from scratch using the new driver.

hp post script drivers are usually better than their normal drivers, try removing all the printers and re-installing it with the post script driver.

try running MSCONFIG and see if there is any HP startup in any of the settings

Nope, that didn't work.
Next day my PC is loading another version of the same printer again.

Seems something has changed. Maybe a restore might correct this problem?

Try a 'file search' for anythng HP ie 'HP*' which should search your hard drive for anything with HP

A restore is looking more attractive.
