I have been using the pre release for several months and also the release candidate.
Sorry but cant agree with previous post as I have found it to be completely stable with no problems with drivers and software and it is much better than Vista even if it is pre release.
I have been trying this for a month now and am quite impressed.
It's a bit like Vista but as fast as XP.
Probably how Vista should have been to start with.
This is a good site for Windows 7 info and reports. Windows7
How do you download a browser without a browser?
[Did I hear the sound of one hand clapping?]
(1) Command line FTP if your mother was scared by a Geek (and you know the address of a suitable site).
(2) Use another O/S which comes with a browser (e.g. Linux, Vista, XP, W2K....) to download a copy to e.g. memory stick before you do the install.
Very tempting, though, because I am not particularly enamoured with Vista although I have only been using it for a couple of months.
On the other hand, if Google are giving the O/S away (just like almost all Linux versions) will the special offers keep on coming?
Possibly worth waiting for the reviews - and feedback on the experience of using it on netbooks such as the EEE PC.
I think the previous posts were slightly tongue in cheek, although with a serious edge, due to Micro$ofts track record with screwing over customers.
I have heard good reports but my PC with XP Pro is running like a dream. My laptop has Vista and it is a pile of doggy-doo. Totally user-unfriendly, particularly with networking and permissions. I will wait on Windows 7 until there are enough positive reviews from people I know.

Mine wasn't Tim, though I have to say that the viewpoint of a large network manager is bound to be very different to that of a home user.
Apart from anything else, my friend runs some very sophisticated software (which I don't begin to understand) and I know he had compatibility problems from the outset of his trial.
It may be great for home use, but as you say, Micro$haft have quite a reputation to live down before I'll take them entirely on trust!
