I have a Nokia mobile phone and I have in the past downloaded photos from it to Photobucket (in order to post them either on forums).
When I tried to download a photo today it didn't go straight to it but brought up a Wizard which wanted to install a driver. I don't recall installing a driver before but I could have done - trouble is I had a PC guy here the other day to overhaul my PC for me and I'm wondering if he might have uninstalled it.
I cant find the original box my phone came in (it's here somewhere!!) so I can't locate a CD - I'm assuming the driver will be on the CD.
So here's the thing...........
I have very old PC (not Bluetooth) how do I transfer photos from my mobile to the PC. I do have the USB cable. Can I download the driver I need or is it necessary to have it anyway?
Cheers guys.
Maura

What operating system are you using?
Which model phone is it?
There is a fairly good chance that with XP, 200 or Vista, if you just connect the phone to the PC with the USB cable the PC will see the phone as another removable drive.
Otherwise you should be able to download the software from Nokia's website.
If neither works at least this will give it bump and somebody else with more specific knowledge may come along.

Hi,
if you go onto the Nokia PC site and download the free PC suite its easy to do whatever. I've just done it for my old phone and it all seems ok. I have to use bluetooth as I don't have a cable but you should have no problems,
Regards,
Chris.
ps I had to by the bluetooth dongle as my pc didn't have it or infra red
Hi
I cant download the PC Suite as it requires XP or Vista (the old PC I'm using is still running in Windows 2000).
The mobile is a Nokia 6300.
What is so frustrating is that I can see my albums on the Photobucket website and photos that I have downloaded from my phone in the past.
I'm pretty sure I just connected the USB cable to the phone and it did recognise it in Photobucket. Now it is telling me to email the photos to the website.
On my phone I get 3 options when I connect the USB cable.
1. Nokia Mode
2. Printing & Media
3. Data Storage.
I found this on the Nokia FAQ's
Q: How do I use a USB data cable to send and receive data on my Nokia phone?
A:
You can use the USB data cable to transfer data between the phone and a compatible PC or a printer supporting PictBridge. You can also use the USB data cable with Nokia PC Suite.
To activate the phone for data transfer or image printing, connect the data cable. Confirm USB data cable connected. Select mode., and select from the following options:
Nokia mode - to use the cable for PC Suite. Use this mode also when updating your phone software in Nokia Software Updater (www.nokia.com/softwareupdate)
Printing & media - to use the phone with a PictBridge compatible printer or with your compatible PC
Data storage - to connect to a PC that does not have Nokia software and use the phone as a data storage device
I assume from that I should choose Printing & Media?

Patrick, thanks so much for the links.
I was just about to go into one of them when the hubby found the original CD....yippeeee
I had 'filed' it in a very safe place
Anyway, long story short, loaded the CD and got older version of PC suite and everything worked just fine [huge sigh].
So now I have the photos loaded into 'My Pictures' on my PC can I now insert them into a forum message direct from there or do I still have to upload them into photobucket?

Had to call in the PC engineer chap who helps sort out my PC problems for me and was telling him about my problems with the mobile etc. He plugged the phone in and opened up My Computer and guess what there is was, sitting there all innocent and I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me
He was very kind and didn't make fun of me (well not to my face anyway) and suggested I uninstall the PC Suite as it was taking up a lot of space and in fact was causing the poor old PC to run very very slowly.
When it was removed the PC immediatley picked up and is now running really well...
Oh I do feel a fool

Maura for the purposes of getting the photos onto your PC all you need to do is plug in the USB cable. The only reason you are prompted for a driver is to use the phone in more complex ways, etc, syncing, etc.
I have never installed my Sony Ericcson phone using the proper drivers. I just connect the phone as a USB storage device.
Incidently, there is probably a lot more old software adding to the slowness of your PC, plus fragmentation, etc. Also, check what programs are unnessecarily starting when windows starts and are not required.
Thanks Tim...I know that now
Like I said, I do feel a fool. Never mind, better to learn something through pure ignorance that never learn anything at all isn't it?
The daft thing is I have transferred my photos in the past from phone to PC but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it so I was mystified when I suddenly got nothing at all when I plugged my phone in.
The wretched thing was there sitting quietly in My Computer waiting for me to go look for it
The PC guy has also put a bit more memory on the old PC for me and also a better defrag which is a lot more efficient than the one I was using.
He also removed all the uninstall files for MS patches - there were dozens of them and they were taking up heaps of space. Like he said - you are never going to uninstall patches so why leave all that on there. Things I would never know about - but then thats why he is a PC engineer person and I'm....not
