Oil top up

Hi All

I have a Renault master dci 140 i want to top up the engine oil.
On the last service the oil used was Elf evolution 5w 40 which i think is a fully synthetic oil.

The question is can i use another make of oil to top up or should i stick with the one used.

I don't think the brand of oil matters as much as the same grade (5w 40) and type - so I (personally) would use another 5w 40 fully synthetic if you can't get the Elf stuff.

yes as above said same grade and viscocity will do , manufacturer not important as its probably the same stuff but in a different tin Wink

this fullysynthetc stuff aint cheap though

Just checked my service book and for average exterior temperatures above -20c the recommendation is ACEA B4 10W-40
{The B4 bit denotes an oil suitable for diesel engines}

5W-40 is only required if going down to -30C

Hi all,

For those like myself who do their own basic maintenance/servicing, I consider this oil on >>Ebay<< to be a bargain for 25ltrs.
That's about four annual oil changes, and has a SL (petrol) and a CF (diesel) grading. Wink

It is a 5W/40 which may not suit some applications.

It has the ACEA A3,B3, B4 rating specified by Renault for their diesel engines and will cover from >+30c down to -30c so should be perfectly OK for most use in Europe.
