looking for a bit of help, i have replaced the computer and would like to transfer all my favorites, emails and address book. i have exported the emails on an external hd as a pst file but cannot put them on the inbox. favorites are in a file and i cannot put them back and also exported the address book. any help gratefully received.
You need to tell us what software. IE4 5 6 7 or 8. Firefox? Thunderbird, Outlook or outlook express etc etc. Versions do matter as some fileformats are not compatible across versions. .pst is outlook if memory serves.
sorry to jump in on this one, but can you tell me how to do this as well, export and import emails and address book etc.then back to other comp. have ie8 & outlook.I have a cd/dvd -rw and a storage hard drive available already connected.I also run firefox.
For firefox (and thunderbird) it's very easy. just use MozBackup.
http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ I take regular backups of my data using this and it is very reliable.
For outlook. it depends on if you are using outlook or outlook express the menu bars are slightly different and for outlook vary depending on which version. If you are using IMAP for email then you don't need to backup the data just the settings as your email is still on the server and will be re-downloaded next time you connect.
hi,
thanks for the replies so far, i'm using ie 7 on the old one and ie8 on the new and microsoft outlook on the old with outlook on the new.
cheers
edit, i have backed up the files in a pst file to a hard drive but when i try to import them they cannot be seen on the drive.
2nd edit! i have managed to import the address book and emails , had to install word. still cannot find a way to import favorites to the web page though, there are no, or at least i cannot see any buttons, to allow me to do this.

In IE8 click on File (top left) and 'Import and Export' then 'From a File' and the 'Favorites' Point at the Favorites file you have exported from your old PC and they should all come in.
thanks all, now sorted. the problem was that i don't have the menu bar up and couldn't find how to import of course the comp. has decided to put them in alphabetical order not my easy random one, ho-hum.
