I don't know what I have done.

I downloaded IE8 a little while a go.

This morning playing about and clicked on the toolbar where it shows the recycle bin, hover over it and Delete history comes up.

Anyway I decided to delete history Sad

Now I find every time I go out of MHF site I have to keep logging in!

I didn't clear cookies.

The 2nd time I went to MHF I had to log in again and then it said to allow cookies and couldn't find that bit anymore!

How do I get back keeping my history until I decide to clear it?

And how do I stop having to login everytime?

any help appreciated.

Hi Rita
When I have done this a new password is required from MHF (forgotten password) this then reestablishes the automatic login, if this is what you are doing than sorry cannot help.

I didn't seem to need a new password, I logged on ok. I clicked mhf forum index and all working. I know I have allowed cookies for mhf so not sure why that came up.

Having deleted History it now seems to keep it deleted! Instead of manually removing it which I prefer. It didn't warn me it would do this! oh dear

As I understand it if you delete history you delete reference to all of the websites you have visited and the associated passwords usernames etc.

Most kids know about this its for when they don't want Mom or Dad know where they have been browsing Smile

Hi Rita

Go to "Tools" > "Internet Options " and make sure that you have not inadvertently put a tick in the box on the General tab that says "Delete browsing history on exit".

Then To avoid having your favorite sites “forget you”, simply add them to your Favorites, and make sure the “Preserve Favorites website data” checkbox is selected*. IE will preserve any cookies or cache files that were created by websites in your favorites.

* to do that go to "Tools" > "Internet Options " and click on the delete Browsing History button, then put a tick in the “Preserve Favorites website data”

Try that Wink

Thanks spykal,

I hadn't actually gone into tools, internet options, delete history. So all that was ok and as before.

what I had done is:

As I have Free AVG there is an AVG security toolbar (I have IE8) which is below the Favorites toolbar and on this toolbar I have:

Avg icon, yahoo search bar, Search, Total protection, Avg info, Get More, and recycle bin icon.

I had clicked on the recycle bin arrow and it came up with delete complete history, and under that 4 other options.

Well as I hadn't deleted history for awhile thought I would do it (thinking this was a quick way rather than going into tools, internet options etc.

So clicked on delete complete history. I didn't click delete cookies. Anyway now it seems the pc isn't storing any history in the top drop down box at all!

If I click onto Favorites and then the history tab then I do have a list of sites visited Today.

Since log-in to mhf 2nd time around and making sure mhf cookies are allowed (which they were) I don't seem to have had a problem this evening and I was still logged in.

Not sure why top address bar nolonger shows sites visited other than current address.

I did just check tools, internet options, delete history and checked all was ticked/not ticked as suggested, but all was ok on that front.
