"Open RUN from start menu and type msconfig. On the "system configuration utility" open services tab and chk for windows audio and make sure its running, if not then select it and just enable it."
Had an Issue with sound on My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop for months unable to reolve. It says the issue is no soundcard installed, but it is.
Anyone else had the same issue?

For the moment don't do anything!
I've just bought a Toshiba L350 laptop and I have the same problem.
When you hover over the little speaker symbol at the bottom do you get:
No Audio Output Device Is Installed.
I thought it was probably a simple matter to resolve and I had probably
caused it.
If you Google using that error message you will find that its a widespread problem and no one seems to have the definitive answer.
Thoughts are that it's a software problem and also that going into sleepmode somehow causes it.

I had exactly this problem only last week........could have been a coincidence but I think it started after I installed Avast Virus thingy......anyway, I got that same on-screen message.
It was a driver issue, vanished for some reason, being a no-nothin' I got engineer to re-install after I tried myself with no luck..
