Hi, after having had Dreamweaver for about 4 yrs (there was a possibility that I might have had to teach it), I finally have an excuse to load and use it. Daughter is getting married next year and pround dad is doing a website (I usually need an reason to apply myself these days).
My question is:- I've put together quite a lot (around 5megs worth) but now have decided that I have started from the wrong place as it were. Is is possible just to rename the index page (through windows) and create another one, would all the links remain intact?
Thank you Dick

Actually, having read this again it seems you're creating a new index page, and just renaming the old one to something else. In that case, you'd need to use the 'old' index page, (as it has all the outgoing links), to make the new page plus the renamed page, if that makes sense. In other words, you need to use the existing index page to create both the new index page and the renamed one.
Hi Dick, one thing you nead to be careful of is renaming the "index" page to something outside of what Web Servers expect to find... What I mean is that Web Servers look for a particular name and so renaming the index something completely random may cause you problems.
From what I understand, Web Servers look for index files in this order:
If you used a template for example index.dwt then if you make changes to this template the changes will cascade through any other pages that use this template. Especially useful when you have main links run down the lefthand side of home page, or across the top.
I don't use Dreamweaver much now as I have had a new site designed around Expression Engine that is database driven.
But I was told in the beginning to use templates for a Dreamweaver site.
You can get to Dreamweaver help forum from the Help menu in the Dreamweaver tool bar.
Below is a direct link. I have found when I posted on their forums you will get a reply quite quick.
