I think I'm right in saying that Apple haven't licensed the magsafe adaptor (that the magnetic power plug that attaches to you laptop) to other manufacturers. They don't make a 12v car adaptor, only a weird airline adaptor. So I think the only answer is an invertor, which has worked fine for me on a few occasions.

Ditto

I run mine on a "normal" inverter when off EHU but have often wondered if a pure sine wave device would be better.

thank you all for your replies. A sine wave was mentioned to me as a good solution but due to cost (I understand is high) was told to ask for a 12v lead. I had a sneaking feeling that there wouldn't be one for a macbook huh good old Apple Rolling Eyes

Check this item out - you might get it cheaper on another web store tho. Kensington stuff is usually good.

Done a bit more research aircraft dc inseat powerports are a regulated 15V dc.

The aircraft apple mag lead comes ( around £28 ) with a 20mm adaptor as well as the standard 'empower' connector now that is suspiciously like a 12V cigar plug (22mm UK 21mm US and Jap) so I wonder if a socket could be procured either 20mm or Empower.

Of course you would still be running over/under voltage risks with your £750 laptop

Ah ha brilliant, a big thank you to you both. The inverter would allow my notebook to charge then I could use it on battery power which might save it from damage if things went wrong. Will also look into the aircraft one. Where did you find that one please Frank.

At any Apple reseller but also at applestore UK >aircraft adapter<

Note that it specifically states not suitable for automotive use - but I'll take a look at one in my local store.
