Hi All

I am looking for a set of 'caravan' type steps to use with our Arto 69GL.

We have an electric omni-step with two treads but the better half suffers with arthritus and is finding them a little difficult. Would like to find a reasonably light weight step with three treads and ideally a handrail. The Dukdalf steps look great but are nowhere near high enough.

Any ideas?

Val

Hi Val

I spent a long time looking for suitable steps for my Rollerteam which although fitted with electric steps is high off the ground and caused all kinds of problems for my mum who often comes away with us and is walking disabled with a degenerative back disease.

The only thing I found which was suitable were from a company who made plastic mounting blocks for horses - I bought a set of steps with 3 steps and took them with me to Spain for the last few weeks. They were brilliant and did the job I wanted them to do - they have safety treads too.

They are relatively heavy though - I am young (well for a motorhomer LOL) and have no problem with lifting them in and out but they would be a problem for less strong / young people (not being disparaging just honest).

I am certain though you would get away with the two step version which would be much more manageable - if you let me know the step height you need I can measure to the 2nd step if you like. I can give you the website also

Cheers

Sean

Hi Sean

The weight is not a big problem, light weight would be nice, but not essential.

If you can tell me the hight of the treads (distance from top of one step to top of next), and the website that would be great.

Many thanks

Val

Hi Val

Nothing to offer on the steps as they all seem to be two tread. On the handrail front this might be helpful for you - http://www.outdoorbits.com/fiamma-security-46-p-129.html It's a security lock but also acts as a foldaway handrail.

http://www.horse-blocks.co.uk/products/

All dimensions are shown on the product listings including the height, obviously no handrail but I have a Fiamma security lock/handle fitted which is ok to use to steady yourself when climbing up as long as it isnt pulled on

Hope this is of some help to you !!!

Thanks for that.

They are certainly an option, but I'd really rather a more traditional caravan style set.

Anyone else any ideas?

Yozz, thanks for the link. The Fiamm hand rail is already on my list, but the price is a bit fierce.

I think you get a further 10% off as a MHF member on that site. Also there's a smaller and more reasonably priced version available. Shop around Wink

I have seen something recently which would suit but for the life of me cannot remember where so I Googled caravan step with handrail and got a selection. This is one if the link works http://www.trimetals.co.uk/steps-caravans.php?m=8

Thanks for that link Noel. I've saved it because in looking for a van I've realised that the electric steps all feel unsafe to me and a long way up or down for a 5ft nothinger. When we get the van I think I'll be investing in a more solid set of steps!

Hi Val,
We have a set of 3 tread aluminium steps. They are suberb. Light-weight and very sturdy but do not have handrail. They make them to order so you may need to wait a week or two.
website
I can thoroughly recommend the product.
