Can't keep new motorhome secret anymore, cos I need help....

Our Iveco has just failed MOT on inefficient rear parking and service brakes (12% and 45% repectively). It also has a constant hissing from a valve situated between the air tanks (is it a blow off safety valve?). Its an air over hydraulic system. I read on another website that someone had a similar problem and it was something to do with a weak spring and rubber stop on the rear braking system that caused air to feed back and kept ths valve thing leaking. Would the hissing and the inefficiency be linked? I dont know a lot about air over hydraulic, need help! Where should I start? Oh and for info, motorhome has been parked up for three years!

Hi Snelly

Not really familiar with air over hydraulic on the cargo, but any air leak is not good and could lead to a prohibition notice.

Poor efficiency could be down to the vehicle having stood for so long, and the contact surfaces between shoes/drums (or pads/discs) being corroded. You can often solve this by running fully freighted and using the brakes a lot to remove the rust. (or the shoes/drums could be badly worn)

If a valve is leaking, it could well be gubbed.

The man on here to ask is Sprokit for the definitive answer.
