I have a Fortec Star decoder for satellite reception and want to connect a 400 GB drive but there is a problem. The drive should be in FAT32 but has been converted to NTFS. On command prompt I can set up to format in fat32 but it then wants a volume label for the drive and I have tried all the obvious but it spits me out to prompt again. Help.

Have looked at formatter but can get the right drive in position to format but asks for region D is shown at the moment . What regions are we talking about? Sorry to bore you all as this must be simple to many.

What are you using to format the 400GB drive?

Hi

as richardjames has said; I would think the easiest way would be either to connect the drive inside a computer, or in a usb caddie through the usb port, and then use disk manager in windows to format the drive, far better than using the format command at the command prompt.

Are you refering to something like this fs-4400 or fs-4700
http://www.fortecstar.com/estore/storefront/default.asp?ProductID=111&CategoryID=4
if not which product is it?

the specs of the above device state that it supports hdd from 512mb to 8 gb, if it connects using a usb port, i would assume it is expecting a pen drive. if so the pen drive can also be formatted by disk manager once it's plugged into the usb port of the pc.

if you need help formatting it through windows give us a shout

Sorry to be a bit thick with comps but the Fortec is the 4700 model and so needs FAT32 on the hard drive.Vista appears not to like FAT32 and on right clicking on K in computer there is a format available but only exfat32 is shown and am not sure what this will do. So the other option was a dos. command but it asks for volume label and tried everything I could think of apart from calling it Alice. Then i downloaded freeware from Tokiwa and it set up bubble help as you progress but I fell at the first hurdle when it wanted region and there was D in the window. Other windows had partition and thought I would leave that alone as well . this is where I am now.
