An amateur(me) take of an interesting and unusual cloud shape.

Hi I think this is called a Lenticular cloud formation, usually associated with High Pressure. Nice photo. Andy

Yup, <puts anorak on> It's a Lenticularis. A wave cloud I believe.

Definitely a UFO Wink

There is a book out called the Cloudspotters Guide (?). Very informative and you'll never look at clouds in the same way again.

Can anyone name this type of cloud.

It happened prior to a thunderstorm in Upper Austria in July 09
It looked really evil at the time and I thought the ridge effect was unusual.

Storm cloud. Cool

The first pic in the topic may be caused by a lorry load of fertiliser that was on fire. Shocked

Hi This looks like a lower layer of cloud, being forced up by high ground (ridge) and becomming more saturated, therefore darker in colour. IMHO. Andy
