For those of you that don't know already, the latest mac o/s has a built in screen grabber that will also grab a selected area.

Try pressing "cmd-shift-4" and you will see a cross hair waiting for you to select an area on the screen (not the 4 on the keypad) This will save a .png file to desktop.

"cmd-shift-3" will give you a shot of the whole screen

"cmd-shift-4 + space" will give you a camera, but not figured it out yet. Anyone know about the camera ?

Doesn't that just take a snapshot of the particular window you're using? Whereas the cmd-shift-3 is a complete screenshot.

Possibly Confused

Gerald

"cmd-shift-4 + space" gives you a camera that takes just the window you want but I notice one can toggle using the space bar to cross hairs and back.

The camera option allows you to select a specific window if you have several open and it will take a screenshot of the window regardless of having to see it all. You'll notice that as the camera hovers over a particular window it will highlight it. And except for the camera option the other 2 options have been around since the classic OS.

What advantage does the new 'camera' have over grab which I first saw in OSX 10.3.

If I want to annotate a picture with arrows and text I take the screen grab with skitch.

The advantage being it is in the o/s so you don't have to open a program to do it. The disadvantage is you have to rename the file on the desktop each time.

Hi Sally,

here's the link for the Snow Leopard page on the Apple site - giving the lowdown on whats new and stuff. Also the upgrade price for Leopard users £25.

Cheers,

Mack.
