having really wierd problems ATM - everything works fine on my PC but I'm having a very wierd problem.
Bear in mind I have been using the interweb thingy since the days of 2400 baud modems and bulletin boards, and I have used a PC all day, every day for the last 20+ years but this has got me baffled.
I can open up 10 explorer pages, or I can open up none. Its totally randomn. I can ask for an explorer page and up pops my google home page - or i can ask for a new page and up pops a page that just never responds. Its hard to explain, but basically I can never tell from one second to the next if a page will open or hang. Same problem extends to linked pages etc - I click a link and the new pages hangs - I click again and I get the page I need (or I could click 3 times with 3 pages hanging and the next time it loads - this is totally randomn as I say.
The problem is hard to explain in simple words, I'm using vista 64 on a PC that has no other issues at all - have tried rollbacks and all sorts in case theres some software install that is hurting me, I'm 100% virus free, have used all the usuaal stuff like adaware blah blah and no problems found - has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
hi
I am having the same sort of problems even getting random web pages coming up on the back of ones I have called for.
Is there an easy laymans way of getting back to 7 from 8?
I've come across this issue several times in the last 6 months or so and it has been resolved by lowering the MTU settings.
If you find that the issue persists after changing browsers, log into your routers admin interface and look round for a setting referred to as MTU (maximum transfer unit), it will probably be set at around 1500, try lowering it to 1430 and see if that cures it, you'll need to restart the router. if the setting isn't available in the router; you can change the setting on your computer in the registry, or alternatively use a free utility on the internet called 'Dr. TCP' which provides an interface to the registry settings. changing it in the router is preferable as that way all data passing through the connection, from any pc, will have the packets adjusted to the size, however changing it on the actual computer means the packets are a smaller size prior to reaching the routers connection, so they don't need adjusting.
obviously if changing the browser sorts it then it isn't the mtu and there's no need to change it
