Hi All,

Received an email from a friend last night that may be of interest. I cannot confirm it's accuracy but he is a bit of a computer buff so should be good.

Regards

Chris

This does works I/we have tried it on at least 5 different houses including my own.
It works by disconnecting a wire in your master BT socket that is not required.

BT lines are 2 wires from the exchange to your house. These wires connect to terminals 2 and 5 in the BT sockets though out your property. However a third wire is connected to all of your terminal 3’s, this wire is Orange or Orange/White or White/Orange.
This wire does not connect to the outside world.
The third wire is a throwback to a requirement by old bell coil / dial phones that needed to draw higher currents and have a suppression mechanism that stopped other phones from tinkling when a phone dialed out.
As almost everyone has modern phones now this is not required.
BT no longer fit this wire on new installations.

Well this wire causes attenuation and RF interference that degrades the quality of the broadband (ADSL) signal.
Cutting this wire at the master socket will improve your broadband speed.
Prove it by running a Broadband speed test such as http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/
Note the figures and restart your router or modem.
Now re test.
Also the exchange equipment averages your line speeds over a 3 day period and will turn up your speed if it sees a good loop back.

See this below for more info.

I remember doing this about 18 months ago.. There are several webpages that give details on it around on the web..
Due to our location and the location of phone sockets in my house we always had a poor speed, after making the mods it did increase the speed.
Cant remember the exact increase...
Definatly worth investigating if you have a slow connection and your provider is saying that you should be getting more..
