Hi all,

I have recently purchased a 1989 F-reg Autotrail Comanche which is based on a 207D chassis. There was quite a lot of rust on the front end, which didn't really worry me. I've now investigated further and think it's actually in a much worse state than I though. I've tried a couple of parts finder websites and am having no luck at all. The worst panel is the one just below the grille (where the large Merc badge sits) and above the bumper. I don't even know what to call this panel (any clues?).

Also, the wings that but up against this panel are rusted in the corners that attach to the panel. I'm thinking the whole panel needs replacing, and I may be able to repair the corners of the wings that butt up against it.

So, does anyone know of a breakers yard that might be able to help me? I'm still willing to give more part finding websites a go, but am equally prepared to travel to a breakers yard if need be.

I'm based in Reading, Berks, but as mentioned, would be happy to travel to pick up parts from a breakers yard if required.

Thanks
Paul

PS - Also, I've noticed other Autotrails based on 207D which are the same age which have power steering. Mine doesn't, do you think it's possible to retro-fit, or shall I stop thinking about it right now Smile

Hi,
Have you actually tried a Merc commercial dealer for the panel you need?

They may have it - and the cost may not be that bad.

Happy Travels

You could try a firm recommended to me - Dronsfields at Oldham. They seem to have a fairly comprehensive on line ordering process. (www.dronsfield.com)

Greetings fellow 207D owner.

Yes i too have the same problem with my body panels.
The part number for a front grill ( metal one ) 1977 to 1995 207D is 5062204 I was quoted £101.00 by DIY motorspares Pinhoe road exeter. They also do all the other panels too.
I have a list of part numbers for the cab if you wish to ask for a particular bit.

Regards

Antonia

Hi Antonia,

Do you have # of parts of body panels as well? I mean not the whole door, but only the underside of the doors, inside and outside..

Thanks!
Bas

Hi Bas

Yes i have the number for the cab door bottoms,
5062052 or 3 left and right
and lower door skins which i think from the diagram are the outer skins
as 5062412 or 3 depending I spose as left and right.

Don't have the prices tho sorry.

I hope that helps.

Thanks all for your ideas. I've found a couple of sellers on ebay too, and as luck would have it a new Mercedes commercial garage opened up literally just around the corner from my house in the last year and I'm taking the van there on Friday to see if they can find out what's draining my battery. The previous owner claimed it was the alarm, which they fitted, but there's all manner of snipped wires bodged connections so it could be anything Sad

If anyone is interested, here's the ebay stores:

Can't wait to get the electrics sorted, and maybe a couple of rusted body panels replaced Smile
