Smile Smile Morning all,

Couple of days ago I was doing my usual thing stalking one of the 3 M/H forums that I frequent...at this point I must admit that I was completely unprotected...then, all of a sudden the screen of my laptop went berserk and started showing porno and gambling sites....oh no I thought.I've been got at.

Since then the laptop has got slower and slower and finally died. I did try downloading all sorts of free virus programmes but all it told me was that I had been invaded with Trojans and all manner of horrible virus's.

Fortunately for me the laptop that I was using was an old one so I've binned it.
I've now downloaded AVG onto my other laptop so hopefully I'm now protected...let this be a warning...get yourself protected...anyone suggest any free good virus downloads to fight these infections...

Regards

Smithy

I thought I was going to read a dog got a virus---why under Pets Smile

Avg is a good one but so is super Anti Spy and Avast they all do the job.
But I wonder if we are ever full covered what ever we use as there is always someone out there determined to get at us.

If you go into settings you can reset the preferences to not allow such sites - that will stop them coming in. The old computer can be recovered, but will take a few days by doing a factory reset, then setting the preferences as above.

There are offers on anti virus software that are around, for example macafee or norton regularly do offers at £25 which is well worth it, and very good. Kapersky labs also good.

Had a similar situation years ago with an ex-girlfriend - quite funny really! Her friend had a new top which she liked and was under the 'pornstar' clothing label. So she googled the name to find their online store........you can imagine what happened!! Very Happy

Used the above system and it cleared it.

Don't dump the laptop put Linux on it (something like Ubuntu). You will get another laptop for browsing the web etc. The great advantage of linux is that its not open to virus infection in the same way as Windows.

You can use Firefox under Linux and it works in the same way as the Windows version. You will also find the laptop will runner much more quickly under Linux as it doesn't hog your system resources.

Watch out with AVG if you use the mobile phone network for access. It checks all links on a web page. So if you use google a lot it will check each link on that page..... Data Transfer limits can be reached quite quickly with stuff like this....

Microsoft have just launched a security package that appears on first glance to be very good. Microsoft Internet Security Essentials.
