I have had my fuji s7000 digital camera for around 6 years.

Just recently three large black dots have appeared on the image as i look through the view finder.

What are they ? And cam they be removed ?

Many Thanks

Is the image in the view finder an LCD image? If it is then it is suffering from pixel dropout which is a transistor malfunction - not repairable I'm afraid

I presume your Sony is a DSLR. In which case, looking through the viewfinder must be showing that the smudges are somewhere in the optics of the system. You don't say whether these smudges appear on the photos or not. If not, they must be in the viewfinder section of the optics. I would think it would be repairable.

The S7000 has an electronic LCD viewfinder so the black spots are most likely dead pixels in the LCD. It isn't worth repairing but shouldn't be any real detriment to the use of the camera. Most of these viewfinder LCDs have a number of dead pixels when new and this is considered acceptable as they don't impact on the image quality.

Do you just see the smudges in the viewfinder, or are they on the actual images as well?

Hello All,

Thanks for your comments,

Yes, the marks do appear in the pictures. More so if i have used the zoom.

There problem has only occured in the last six months.

Unless you are using digital (as opposed to optical) zoom this suggests that they may be in or on the lens mechanism, if they were on the sensor optical zooming shouldn't make much difference to their effect on images.

Are they sharp edged or fuzzy edged?
