Hi all,

Received and E-Mail from McAfee saying the automatic renewal of my 3 User Internet Security had been successful and the card I used last year would be deducted £49.99.

Not very happy at all as I hate anyone removing money from my account without my permission.

I usually buy this program from my local computer shop for £20 but last year, he was still waiting for the latest version.

I had a nag screen up from McAfee around this time offering it at a £25 discount (£24.99) so went for it to save any hassle. Apparently by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, it states that the "Always on Protection " - Automatic Renewal - is preferred by their customers.

I contacted McAfee Customer service using their online chat and asked for a refund and auto renewal switched off. I also said I would be happy with the discounted price offered last year and this was agreed.

So up and running for another year for my 2 laptops and home PC.

I know there are loads of free anti-virus programs out there and I've tried a few but am happy with McAfee.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
Alan

With all due respect, why would you pay these people (McAfee and the like) for what you can get free?

AVG and Avast are at least up to their standards - and - they don't take over your machine. Try and uninstall McAfee and you'll see what I mean.

If it works for you then great, but you can get the same protection for nothing.

Just my 2p worth Rolling Eyes

Hi Alan,

If you sign up with O2 Broadband you get the McAfee 3 PC software free of charge.
http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp

O2 is an excellent service I have been using for nearly 2 years, my home is almost 3 miles from exchange and I'm getting about 2mb speed with unlimited downloads for £7.34 per month. Have a look at this site for broadband comparisons.
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html
Before moving to O2, I was with Pipex and speed was about 400kb

If your exchange has an O2 LLU using ADSL2+ you can get a faster connection than normal ADSL. Have a look here to see if your exchange has an O2 LLU.

PM me if you would like more info.

I would NEVER use Mcafee ever again after what I consider to be a nasty trick on their part many years ago.

I bought Mcafee Internet Security V5, only to find when I got it home it was version 4 and that I had to send my purchase receipt to an address in The Netherlands to in order for them to send me a license key to upgrade to version 5.

Once bitten, never again.

I know use Kaspersky Internet Security and it is a fair supreior product.
At £29.95 for 3 PC license you can't wack it.

With refernce to taking money without the owners conscent (automatic Direct Debit), watch out for the National Trust, I cancelled my membership because of it. I control my money no-one else.
