We are planning to travel around Europe for a year and I hope to do some writing during that time. I will want to print this out to send to publishers etc.

I guess my choices are either to pay for printing at an internet cafe or to buy a portable printer. Though for large documents I can always get a friend to print it in England.

Does anyone know:
1. What sort of prices are charged for printing across Europe?
2. How good are portable printers?

Many thanks,

Lesley

Hi Lesley

I would imagine that portable printers won't be much good to you. They will be inkjet, and would be expensive to print manuscripts - you really need a laser printer.

Which publishers will you be submitting to? Only a lot of them now accept electronic submission for the synopsis and 3 chapters (for novel publishing). Most short story outlets also accept electronic submission. Word or RTF formats are the norm, with the correct formatting for font style, etc.

What ya gonna write then?

Gerald (a bit of a writer now and then)

HP do a much more affordable printer for about Ģ30, just use it whenever you have a hook up.

Depending on how much space we have in the van we eventually buy (purchase planned for February), I suppose I could take my home printer and do as Gerry suggests.

As to publishers Gerald, I was talking to an agent in the summer and he said that many publishers are still pretty old-fashioned and set in their ways about how manuscripts are presented to them - even down to fonts used.
