I'm sure I remember a thread about it on MHF a while ago (it's not there now, prob because it was Off Topic).
IIRC, there were question marks over Swoopo, although some people seemed to have used it successfully. Some reported having bid on items, but always lost out (and you have to pay for your bid vouchers, so it costs you each time you bid).
You have to buy bids at roughly 20 for £10 (50p each)
Each bid is worth 2p. So for it to sell at £111.54, there would have needed to be 5550 bids, which at 50p each is £2,775. Now the winner can 'buy' the product and get his bids back. Assume (worst case for him) that he's been bidding alternately, so he has paid £1,387 so he'd do that. Which means Swoopo have sold a £949 camera for £1,387 (that other people have bid) + £111 = £1,498
If the winning bidder has only bid 25% of the time, the ratio goes in favour of Swoopo even more - the winning bidder paid £694 for his bids, which means other bidders have spent £2080, therefore Swoopo sell the £950 camera for £2080 + £111 = £2,191
