We were ay Ypres in August and there wasnt many English vans then either. We stopped around the corner from the Menin Gate and went and watched the Last Post. Presume you have been but if you havent its worth a visit.

That's a difficult one to answer.

You're in Belgium, it's November, it's raining and you're not seeing any Brit motorhomes?

I lived in Belgium for a while - nothing much happens there, nothing ever changes and it nearly always rains.

Nice people though. Smile

........ and they make good beer (Palm). Smile

To be perfectly honest if we were on holiday at this time of the year then Belgium would not be top of the list.

Dont know if you have been before or if you have somewhere to stay but if your going to the Menin Gate for the last post ceremony at 8pm then just around the corner is a road that runs alongside the waterway and ramparts and you can park overnight there for free. I dont have the GPS but if you google earth Ypres and find the menin gate, just before you get to the gate and city centre you turn left down a road that runs alongside the river. There are houses one one side and water on the other. After the houses there are some large parking bays. It comes up as an Aire on our satnav, there are no facilities but its fine for a night and you can walk to the gate and city centre easily from there. Also worth seeing is Tyne Cot cemetery a few miles up the road, the Yorkshire trenches (both free) and loads of stuff in the city centre.

Regards
BD

The last post at the gate

Great !

Thanks everybody, we went to Menim gate last week and were lucky enough to see the last post with a bit extra, the was an Australian who had won the VC and was on tour he had been to UK to see Queen and then was invited to lay a wreath at the ceremony it was very touching. We spoke to his sergeant and wife after and took phots which I haven,t downloaded yet.
We are going to Brugge in a few days as the reason for this jaunt is to see the Christmas markets. But for now using the trams into Ostend and other places is an adventure....got webbed feet and weights in boots so ok and of course plenty of local beer.
