I would also consider Nikon D60 which has everything you require
As the op was planning an 'upgrade' a Nikon D60 would not be suitable if the op already has a selection of EOS lenses.
With regards to taking photo's over motorways at night, be VERY careful.
I once had the same idea and chose a bridge overlooking the M6 just south of the knutsford services. The idea being that I would get the red/white lights on the motorway along with those on the slip roads entering and leaving the services.
Having taken a few experiment shots, a vehicle approached over the bridge and at the last minute mounted the pavement and put his blue light on. This was back in the early 1980's when the police did'nt see amateur photographers as terrorists. They had come to check up on me after receiving a report from a diner in the resteraunt of a person on the bridge with a rifle.
