After 5 years of enjoying our Carioca, our needs have changed.

We are looking for a MH with a garage with a door measuring at least 30” wide by 42” high to take a Tramper Off-Road Mobility Scooter.

Above this we need split beds with wide steps between them as my wife can’t manage to get up onto the more normal transverse beds.

Automatic Transmission will give her the chance to drive occasionally.

So far, all we have found that will fit the bill (and which we can afford) is a CI Cipro 85 on a Renault Automatic base. But haven’t found any for sale!

Any ideas welcome.

Are you looking for new or used, if used how old, and have you googled for disabled type MH's.

Sorry I can't help more.

Good luck Kev.

PS Googled results for disabled motorhomes

Thanks Kev.

We would prefer new but with 'only' about £40k we might struggle to find one.

The 2007 to 2009 Cipro 85 Auto would be good if we could find one. Danum has just sold one at the right price (£33k) but say they are very rare.

I’ve had a look at your search of Disabled Motorhomes - thanks. We would prefer an unadapted van though.

Sorry I didn't want to vet them for you, and it must be a minefield of misinformation.

I assume by un-adapted you mean no more than a wider hab door and a standard automatic gearbox, does this mean the condition will not get any worse, as it may mean needing more levels of adaptation later.

I'm not sure if they still have it but Richard Baldwins (Halifax, you may need to travel) had a wide hab door model in their showroom a while back, and seem to be a good outfit, at least the best one around here, there is no dealer in Leeds, and I (personally) wouldn't go to the one in Bradford if they were giving them away.

hope you find something newish and with no problems.

Kev.

My Frankia has a side garage door of 31x47 and a larger one on the rear. the rear bed layout would also suit you. I have a manual gearbox and suppose autos would be hard to find.

Cranhams and Spinney both get used Frankias in

Dethleffs do one - beds are either single or massive double at the back with steps in the middle which then gives a large garage underneath. They are usually on a Renault Master chassis with big payload so could accommodate a motorscooter.

I think that one is Esprit 6844 they have just changed to magic edition in the mid £60k region but a few second hand ones if you can find them around.

Thanks all,

I wish we could afford one of the 'better' vans but I think we have settled on a Carado T337 (a Hymer brand) which should meet our needs. Back to the NEC tomorrow to finalise the deal.

Diver, I notice you haven't mentioned VAT exemption.

Obviously I have no idea whether you qualify, but if you do, it would make quite a difference, though only on a new van I believe?

Many of us can't afford new vans. so buy a used one, you get a better one that's been modified at no extra cost, (sloar panels etc) and most if not all "new van" issues have been sorted by someone else.

I'd give it a re-think before buying new, and look at used again.

Well we bought a Carado T337 (VAT free) and so far (1,000 miles) it has been excellent.

Still getting the old toys put back on the new van, but we are nearly sorted.

I've a few questions about the Transit base which I'll be asking on a new topic.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
