I went to Slimbridge in Glos yesterday to test and buy a Nikon 600 f4 lens. So took the D3X and had a great day.
This is my first attempt with a long lens and manual focusing. Very different from my normal landscape, the buxxers kept moving! Have already ordered a gimbal head which balances the lens and camera so you can easily take pics. All of these where done using a monopod.
The place was full of pigeons and I reckon this one was pretending to be a hawk!
And this one was puffing out his chest to obviously appear as beautiful as some of the more exotic birds!
Excellent Photos Chris, Managed to snap a Heron in our garden the other day but camera settings all wrong when I grabbed it. See if I can add it later.

Must be clean air where you are?

Slimbridge is in Gloucester. Very nice place, my first visit. Will do a family membership so we can go to all of the trusts sites.
Thanks for the comment. The new lens is awesome. As mentioned a definite learning curve though.
Landscapes tend to stay still but the pesky birds kept moving! Then I had to manually focus so that was very new to me and finally the lens was on a monopod so I had to keep it steady.
The gimbal head should arrive next week which means I can take it away with me to Malvern where we are staying in the RV.
Hi Gerald,
Get yourself over to Talk Photography and keep your eye on the for sales section. This lens, which is fairly old now, but a razor sharp copy, costs about £8 or 9,000 when new. I did not pay remotely near that!
Chris they are so good you ought to send then to a wild life Magazine.
Or start a blog with them as they are fascinating.
Keep them coming I have just spent a good time looking at the little darlings
À tous mes amis du forum thankyou pour toutes vos pensées agréables et avec son amour derrière moi je lutterai contre mon conflit avec un esprit de postive et le triomphe
