Bought a cheapo Bush freesat box from Argos today for £299.99.
Wanted to see if we could live without £48.50 a month of Sky rubbish at home.
Set it up easily with Sky dish and it seemed to tune in around 140 channels. However, following problems:-
1. Put in home post code and got "no signal" from BBC South East...our local region. Then put in sister in law's Croydon post code and immediately got BBC London!!
2. A lot of channels on the channel list show "no signal".
3. A lot of channels show "new service....please wait". I have and nothing happens.
Have I bought a duff box or am I missing something? Must say that the picture is fine on the channels I can get.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Brent

We have a free to air sat system in the van and quite a lot of the channels do not work but you can always get each one on one of their frequencies.
You may need to adjust the orientation of the dish very slightly to get a stronger signal.
Do you have a signal strength meter? - that would help.
I am assuming that you already have a confirmed good signal by using another box on your dish.
There are several channels that are starting on freesat within the next couple of weeks.
If this is a Bush freesat box, then there have been several software upgrades for this unit. One of the original problems with the Bush boxes was the incorrect or incomplete postcode database. Not certain exactly which it was as Alba would never declare the cause of the problem.
These earlier boxes were recalled before sale and nobody ever heard any more about them. That was why at launch of freesat, only the Humax box was available to buy. Now that Alba, and in that case Bush is owned by Argos then it would appear that the recalled boxes may have reappeared on the market at knockdown prices. I have just checked the DTG website and the software update for the SD Bush box is currently not running. Also the update for the HD box finishes on wednesday. It may be that they will re-run the update for the SD box from Thursday, but there is no info.
You could wait until thursday and check for software update, or return it to store.

I did have a work around from Alba to resolve the waiting service freezing problem. Unfortunately that was around the time that freesat launched and I no longer have a copy of the email. I have just checked our support websites and it is no longer shown on there. Everything that you are showing is an indication of an unmodified original box.

You would have been even more if I had mis-typed £2.99!!
Can't remember which channels said " no signal" or "new channel...please wait" but there were a lot more channels not working than were working.
Decided to take it back this morning for a refund. The software comments have put me off keeping the box and the longer I wait for software updates, the more Mr Argos will refuse a refund.
It will be interesting to know how you get on setting your system up.
