Good Afternoon All

I'm looking for suggestions I might try or a replacement radio for my
1999 AS Medallion.

The one in when I bought it was a Landrover 1993 AMR 2194 LNF which
whilst not brilliant HiFi or such, but was OK for us - mainly news.

Whilst near Daventry last week and listening to the news, I adjusted the
'fade-balance' and it went off. The display remained on show apparently
fully operational. I put fade control back to where it was with no
effect and switched on/off changed bands and presets ad nausea ...
nothing ... nowt. I went off to walk the dogs in a huff.

When I got back I switched on and off several times and suddenly I had
Radio 4 [which was then selected] 5 by 5. Again I changed wave bands,
preset stations and ran through a gamut of frequencies and all worked
beautifully. But as soon as I moved the fade control one whisker [it is
concentric with the volume control] the radio went dead and remained so.

Back home I took it out and found the aerial connection might be dodgey
so I fettled it first class: still nothing. And then after switching
on and off several times, on came Classic FM [which was then selected]
once again 5 by 5. I went through the above changing frequencies wave
bands and presets all working absolutely AOK ... until that is once
again I moved fade a whisker and the sound died but the front panel
remained as active and apparently working as it has throughout.

I took the top of the radio box but decided that removing the fade unit
which also incorporates the volume control is above my pay grade.

Can anyone suggest what I might try.

Alternatively has anyone a good source of supply at a reasonable rate
for a 2nd hand replacement?
