Bought a Digital Freeview Receiver 17.99 in Maplin, have tried to install on mySharp 15" LCD tv, got the menu up on AV1 but search came up with 'No Signal' do I need a special aerial to receive Freeview. We did buy a 19" with freeview builtin and it gave us all the BBC channels but no itv ones, took it back. Then I found the booklet that was posted through the door (switchover in two parts) So if that worked on our existing aerial why "No Signal", by the way we can still get the four main channels from the South (isle of wight I think). still what am I doing wrong with this Nikkai DFR.
Reason for change by bognormike: mods edit - more detail in title
In my part of Dorset the house antenna has not been changed for freeview and my MH status antenna also works fine.
I assume that in your configuration that the antenna is connected to the freeview box 'antenna in' and there is a scart lead from the freeview box to the TV Aux 1 Scart socket? As you are still getting the analogue signal from IOW you must have and additional coax lead from the freeview box 'antenna out' and the TV 'antenna in'.
Is the above correct for your installation? Where in Dorset are you located?
Yes if its rowridge you still get analogue and digital.... from the main aerial connect it to the input of the digital receiver and then onto the main tv... if that is how you have wired it up and you are getting normal signals fine... its just the way you might of set up your tv receiver, to receive digitial signals, will come from the scared plug and also from the digital receiver down your tv aerial... of course you will have to locate which channel the box is retransmitting it on by scanning function on your tv.... can be around ch30 or ch69/70 hope that helps...
We have a freeview box and separate TV and whenever we change location we get "No Signal message' because the set-up needs retuning. Doesn't take long. We have the status 530 aerial. We don't use a signal finder, haven't needed one so far.

Your post is not clear. If you are trying to get digital reception in your motorhome then the first thing you need to know is the likelihood of a digital signal at the site that you are using.
To get it right, check the postcode for the site, we normally do this before we head off, or if we are tuning then we use the internet as soon as we know where we are going or when we get there. Use this postcode checker only:
www.digitaluk.co.uk
enter the postcode and check the box that says that you are in the aerial installation trade. The next page will show the possible transmitters at the location. First will be analogue if there is still an analogue signal. Then will be the digital transmitters. This will show the compass bearings for the transmitters. this is the most important information.
Below this will be rows of coloured boxes with dates in the left hand column. These show the predicted signal at the dates shown. You need to find the row with the highest numbers in green boxes all the way across for the date that you are searching. The numbers represent the number of 10m squares within a 100m square that will get a good signal and are an indication of how likely you are to get a good signal.
Once you have selected the best signal then set your aerial in the direction given for the respective transmitter.
This does not guarantee a good signal as trees and buildings can still block your signal.
As already stated if you aren using the Rowridge transmitted then you are likely to have problems as the signal has been changed and down graded to avoid cross transmission with the main transmitter in Caen.
During the switchover process, signals will vary and you will often need to understand how to manually tune your receiver. Not certain if the Nikkai is capable of manual tuning. It is not a product that I am familiar with.
Just another point, every time you move to a different transmitter you will need to carry out a full factory reset on your digital receiver.
Hope this helps.

We have digital LCD TV with a DVD and freeview installed (courtesy of Comet).
Each time we go to a different location we have to run the installation routine to find local channels.
Depends where we are sometimes we get signal sometimes we dont - when we get on site we look which way everybody else's aerials are facing and then try that direction. Last weekend at Sedbergh we could just about get a signal but everytime somebody in the van moved it knocked the signal out But spoke to someone else on site who said tv reception in area was not good.
We have a "stick on" avtex aerial - cost about £30 - sticks to side of van and wire comes in through window. If we dont get a signal then we just watch a DVD or CD listen to the radio or go to the pub
The tv we just bought has Freeview in it. I am interested in the aerial question as not sure what to get as yet. I have tested it for DVD and CD and that's OK. I tuned it OK at home using the house aerial so it all works, now I have to fix on an aerial to use in the van...caravan!

Thanks O Master. I want the none permanent type and saw your other post recommending that one and bookmarked it. We are away next week so will rely on DVDs I think, well we have done without telly for years while touring so another week is not much. My son is giving me a brand new boosted indoor aerial tomorrow as he just called me about something else. I will try it but not sure it will be OK.

Derek,
Just seen your other post and replied to that. If I wasn't confused before, I certainly am now.
