Hi, I have a 96 iveco daily classic, which is now a campervan, the problem i have is when i turn the ignition key off the engine is still running, i am able to bump stop it but i dont think this is a good idea long term. Has anyone else come across this and can any one advise me on how to stop this happening
Kindest regards
Mikhail
I'm no mechanic by far but the only time this has happened to me was when I picked up a used car and after driving it for about 10 miles tried to turn it off and it kept on running...turned out that there was absolutely no water in the radiator and it was overheating. Fortunately put water in and it was fine after that.
Hi,
I'm not 100% sure what type of pump you have on this vehicle but here goes,
on the injection pump you should see a single wire going to a small solinoid. Unscrew the solinoid (be carefull as inside there is a spring and a plunger). reconnect the wire and earth the solinoid body, get someone to turn on the ignition. the plunger should pull into the solinoid. if not then replace the solinoid.
Hope this helps.

Ten out of ten for that apart from the fact that the solenoid is actually working, if it wasn't, there would be no fuel getting into the pump.
You will find that the solenoid is stuck in the open position and not cutting off the fuel when the ignition is turned off which removes the 'opening' current on the solenoid.
thanks for all this information folks, i do notice it does tend to happen when the engine gets hot(there is plenty of water in the radiator), i will look at the solenoid thing to see if that will resolve it(with the help of a mechanic as i don't know my solenoid from my elbow) fingers crossed
Yeah, check the solenoid, I have known them fail in both positions, ie wont start or won't stop the engine, a lot of the time they are just gunged up and can be cleaned
can anyone give me some idea where i find the solenoid and what it looks like, is it something anyone can sort or should i be seeking proffesional help
Look on the fuel pump for a wire attached to a cylindrical device, easy fix yourself, post a pic of the pump if your struggling and we'll point out the solenoid for you
