Hi

After lot's of painful searching, and many fruitless miles traveling to view various vehicles which have turned out to be wrong in different ways, I've finally found the van conversion / motorhome that ticks all the boxes design / function wise.

However, it is based upon a 1988 Iveco Ford 79-14 with a 6l cummins diesel engine, with an un-warranted 160,000 kms.

My brother used to own an Iveco fiat zeta panel van, and advises that getting parts was a nightmare 10 years ago, and he shudders to think about trying to get them nowadays, apparently the vehicle was a stop gap model for ford, and sold only in very small quantities in the UK before being discontinued quickly and replaced.

he ended up scrapping his van as repair costs got so high.

other mechanical advisor's echo his comments... especially with regards chassis / sub-frame / sliding doors mechanisms etc etc.

any thoughts gratefully received.

thanks
Jamie

Hi Jamie, and welcome to MHF!

You will find that engine parts are readily available for the Cummins engine, and things like brakes suspension etc will be OK too.

You may have difficulty with vehicle-specific parts such as cab mounts, heater motors, switches, etc.

Consumables will be readily available.

Glass and body panels may also be difficult.

A visit to a commercial motor factors with the chassis number and a 'basket' of spares will give you some idea about availability.

eg Front/rear brake shoes/pads/discs/drums. oil/air/fuel filters. clutches. wheel bearings. headlight. mirrors.

Hope this helps.

David
