Confused Can anyone help?
Our 5 month old Rimor on a Ford 140 diesel engine developed a fault on the way home from a 2week trip to Lake Garda.
the warning light for a battery problem came on.
We stopped and switched off the engine had a break and restarted with light off.
After this happened half a dozen times switching off the engine produced a noise for about 10 seconds from the engine compartment. It was a bit like a chicken being strangled.
gradually light came on more and more.
We pulled over and called out the AA. He tested all electrics could find no problem said drive carefully and go to Ford Dealer asap.
We did this (chorley) today. They kept it all day then when we rang up said they had no idea and it woulnt fit on the ramp so it is going to Preston tomorrow.
We need to book to go to France in 2 weeks. (dog in kennels in france another saga.)
Can anyone point us in any direction Question

a quick guess, is the noise heard once you turn the engine off?

IF so, on the 2.2L ford there is [IF memory serves] a cleaning function of the EGR unit. When we had a Ford it sounded like metal scrapping together... most unpleasant! The Ford man said that's what they are like.

Never had the battery light come on though, so perhaps it's not the same thing.

PS I'd second the Transit Forum.!

Very Happy Sorted! Thanks to everyone for their help including the transit forum.
Ford Dealer has replaced the valve, the alternator and diagnosed 'over running' and fixed that also.
It explaines why we has a horric time on a pass-going down tried to slow van using gears and it reved its head off so had to use brakes only-lovely smell of hot brakes.
Evans Halshaw preston have sorted it so off to Dunkirk Sunday to get Lucky Very Happy Very Happy
