I would highly recommend visiting Monaco but be cautious about taking the van into the principality. Firstly, if you can get in at all then you are lucky, secondly it's a complete pain to get parked. By far the preferred option for me was to park up at Les Cygnes near Cannes. It's a 15 walk from the campsite to the train station and then about an hour to Monaco.

We stayed here in May http://www.davidklyne.plus.com/camping_la_vieille_ferme.htm

It is a 10 minute walk to the station and the train takes about 50 minutes. We went to Grand Prix so I expect the trains were more crowded that usual.

Hello - Just like previous posts have mentioned - train is definitely the best option. Went to Monacco in August, Hubby is a huge Grand Prix fan, drove the motorhome around the circuit (around the hairpin and through the tunnel) great for F1 fans - parking was very motorhome unfriendly with signs everywhere "NO MOTORHOMES", however we took the risk of a parking ticket as 5 other motorhomes where parked in the harbour. We were lucky and managed to avoid a fine. Two days later we had moved onto Antibes further down the coast and decided to get the train back into Monacco, the trains are very frequent, air conditioned and really quite reasonably priced.

I agree that the train seems a great idea but we have two yorkies and don't like to leave them too long ... don't suppose they are allowed on the trains??!! Crying or Very sad
I've heard that motorhomes are allowed but no caravans. Agree that parking must be very difficult but Paul can get the MH into a space I wouldn't get the car into!! (He is vry good at parking and I am the other extreme!!) ... no comments about women drivers please lol!! Laughing Ana xx

Hi Ana,

I have no dog but dogs are a common sight in trains on the continent. So I don't expect any problems if you take them with you. You only might need to pay for an extra ticket (probably child or special dog rate) per yorkie.

Best Regards,
Gerhard

Laughing Thanks Gerhard ... that makes me feel better. I was just worried thinking if it was a train journey of 50 mins there and 50 mins back that added to the time we were in Monaco , they would have been alone a long time!
I know that in Monaco dogs and people are not allowed to walk (let alone anything else!) on the grass and they may have an initial problem with that!!
So ...a train it is then .... thank you!! Laughing Ana xx
