I would like some advice on the factory fixed reversing camera.
I would like the monitor to be able to be used as a rear view mirror so that I can keep an eye on the tow ball mounted cycle rack.
There are no obvious cables in the locker behind the camera where I could possibly feed an ignition switched cable.
There are a number of cables that disappear into the rear panel underneath the vehicle but without a wiring diagram it is difficult to see where the camera picks up it's power when you select reverse.
Underneath the passenger glove box is a Sargent Reverse Camera Adaptor EM1.1 this is where the monitor power cables are connected & there appears to be a relay in this unit that allows the power to the monitor to pass when reverse is selected. There is also a 6 pin cable that heads back to the camera.
I know that Sargent Electrical read these forums & perhaps they have a solution or indeed any one else?
I have been in contact with Sargent Electrical and found them to be very helpful regarding fitting a reverse camera to my Swift Bolero.
They are very quick in answering e-mails over technical matters.
I am about to fit the camera and under the dash passenger side is the control box which takes in a feed from the reversing light wiring . It may be possible to replace this with a switched live feed but am sure Sargents will be able to advise you.
I suspect; and I am not an expert' that what you want to do is illegal, which may be why it isn't as you want it already.

Hi
Harvey I don't think it is illegal because:-
We have a new Starburst and as there is no rear window the rear view mirror has been replaced by a rear view, mirror sized monitor fed from a reversing camera that switches on when reverse gear is selected. But it can also be switched on whenever necessary with an overide touch screen switch and I use it to check that the bikes are Ok on the bike rack. Some folks have twin lens cameras and my mirror monitor has two inputs so I may investigate fitting one. When fitted one lens looks back down the road for a "rear view" the other is the wide angle reversing lens.
Bobmc as suggested a call to Sargent may be the way to go, they do answer questions on here too... in the meantime try the Sargent website .>Here<... look under technical data where you may find the wiring diagram for your van.

Hi, I know it was some time since this was last posted but I have a similar problem.
I have an Autocruise Startrail which has a reversing camers and can only see down the van to the cycle rack.
The reqr view mirror acts as a monitor to view when reversing or if preferred can be switched on at random to check.
Ideally I would like one monitor, preferrably the rear view mirror, with the abiltity to see both rear view and reversing view (not necessarily at the same time!)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Our dealer has already confirmed that the camera position cannot be altered but that potential exists for a second roof camera and monitor to be dash mounted using extant cabling.
