Hello, I am looking at a lovely camper (my first!) but not sure what a decent price should be for this....
It’s an 89 LT35, RHD, standard wheel base, 2.4 diesel. It’s an excellent home conversion with sink, gas cooker and grill, separate kitchen ‘area’, 4 berth and lots of storage. It’s very tidy with a small amount of surface rust. It’s done close to 100,000 miles.
The only thing it doesn’t have is an electrical hook up! It has a large capacity leisure battery which apparently lasts 5 days. I’m planning to find out more about the cost of getting a hook up installed (it has ceiling lights wired in and an inverter on the battery for using electric appliances).
So, two questions:
- Is £4500 a reasonable price for this?
- Any recommendations on the price / complications involved with getting an electrical hookup installed? And any recommendations for someone in London/south east who could do this?
Thanks

As they all say, it's worth what somebody will pay for it Rolling Eyes . For a high mileage it might be a bit on the expensive side for a 'van that's 21 years old. Not sure about the hook-up, and don't take their word on the amount of time it can go without charging - that depends on the battery and how much you use the power. For instance at this time of year you don't use much power for lighting - in the winter you use loads...

Ask when the conversion was done - if it's that high a mileage the converter may have got a second hand van & converted it.

Finally, non-proprietory conversions can be difficult to insure (and get breakdown cover for) , you may need to shop around more than you would if it was a standard conversion.

Still sat here in front of the computer - it may be in the office, or on the laptop if I manage to get away from the office.

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.

The price sounds high to me for a self-build conversion of that age. You should be able to find an Autosleeper or other recognised conversion of similar age (or younger) with proper electrics already installed for that sort of money from a private seller - a dealer would probably want £7K or £8K for anything in good condition. Much depends on condition, which is more important than mileage, obviously.

Self-builds can be difficult to resell unless cheap because most dealers won't touch them.

I don't know how much it would cost to install a mains hook up, with associated wiring and control box/charger but I don't expect it to be cheap. You could ring round the small converter companies for a quote.

This sounds like one of the square shaped LT35, engine between the seats type.they used to blow head gaskets, overheat, virtually rust away before your eyes.
So I would walk away from it, unless it has a years mot and tax, priced at £1200.this should be enough to give you a taste of motorhoming, without killing the savings.
In other words buy it to throw away when finished with.

Sounds very dear to me, would guestimate £800 to £1500 without seeing it. At £4500 it would want to be classic car mintwith no rust atall.
