Thanks to some twerp leaving their camera on a public bench, 'a certain person' will be looking to replace their beloved Canon EOS400D when they get back off holiday
Luckily, I ... I mean, this person, didn't lose their new Canon 300mm zoom lens at the same time, so this will need to be factored in.
I guess there will be a budget of £400 - £500. I see the EOS1000D falls within that range, and I might be able to squeeze in the EOS450D (both will need the 'standard' lens, 18-55mm).
Is there anything else that will use the Canon lens mount, or should I go for what I know - i.e. another Canon?
À tous mes amis du forum thankyou pour toutes vos pensées agréables et avec son amour derrière moi je lutterai contre mon conflit avec un esprit de postive et le triomphe

Hi Gerald,
If you were happy with the 400D why not buy another, you'll get a very good secondhand one, possibly with some goodies, for less than your budget
I bought mine secondhand through eBay a couple of years ago, had maybe 80 clicks on it, so pretty much as new at far less cost than new.
I think many get put up for sale as near new because a lot of folks think that buy buying an DSLR they'll get great pictures automatically, get frustrated because its not just point and shoot and sell them on.
Yes, this is what I was thinking last week after the loss. We'll see what the insurance company says (if anything )
This was one of the last photos I took with the camera (sob)

Hi Gerald
I would second the Ebay suggestion as I bought a second Nikon off Ebay to use with my 500mm tele, and it was very cheap and in fabulous condition, well pleased.
Bye the way I left and lost an expensive telescope and telephoto lens on a beach years ago so you're not the only one.
Gary
I third Ebay but no need for 2nd hand go to the Canon Ebay Outlet where Canon themselsves sell off so called "refurbished" stock much of it has only been displayed at shows etc. and is checked over before being sold with full warranty.
EOS 450D + 18-55 IS currently on "Buy it now" for £379.00 + £2.95 P&P
Within many cameras you have the ability to embed your name and address which then gets added to every shot you take. Its just remotely possible that someone will find this and look at the images and see your contact details. It has been known to work for others.
I just embed my name and house number and post code - just in case.
