I had one fitted to my compass avantegarde when I bought it new just over a year ago and have not watched a single program on it yet! tried it all over england and wales, too weak a signal. is it me? or is my setup faulty?
Unless you have been incredibly unlucky in that each place you have tried it in has been in an area of poor reception, then you have a fault either in the cabling, the aerial booster or the TV itself. If you don't have a booster then that is the first place to start - i.e. get one! After that, it is a process of testing and elimination to find where the fault lies.
Several questions:
1. are you searching for digital or analogue signals?
2. Are you using a TV with built in Digital tuner or set top box?
3. Have you checked that there is a usable signal at the site?
4. Have you carried out s full factory reset before tuning.
5. If your aerial is directional, it is aimed in the right direction?
6. As has already been covered, do you have a booster/amplifier? If so is it switched on?
7. Are you certain that your cable is in good order?
8. Have you checked your Tv on a known good aerial, i.e. at home?
Once you have checked all of the above and given positive answers you need to understand how to get the signal correctly. Many parts of the country now no longer have any kind of analogue signal, so if you are searching for an analogue signal without checking if one is available then you will have no TV to watch. Also, many parts of the country have no Digital signal reception, so without checking the same can happen.
It is important to check for signal and the easiest way to do this is via the Digital UK website. If you know where you are going then the best method is to check the postcode on the website:
www.digitaluk.co.uk
Enter your postcode in the postcode checker and then tick the box that says that you are an aerial installer. The next page will give you an accurate prediction of reception, plus the direction to align your aerial and the channel numbers to set your receiver.
Follow these simple rules and, hey presto, you have TV reception.
BTW, another simple rule, for any type of TV reception do not pitch near any trees or buildings.
Hi Gerry, in reply to your questions:-
1-digital
2- TV with built in digi tuner
3- I get a good signal at home on my house tv
4- don't know how to, have e-mailed Maxview but as of yet, no reply
5- Streamlined Omni-directional aerial designed to receive all available analogue and digital terrestrial
UHF TV, FM and DAB signals through 360 degree radius
6- yes, it comes with a booster and it is switched on and works fine with the radio I have installed
7- the cables look OK, they are only 13 months old, I have also tried the socket on the outside of the motor home, same result, only 68%, not enough to get a proper picture or sound.
8- yes have plugged into my house aerial and the TV works fine.
As I live in the Midlands and the dealer that supplied the motor home is in North Wales, I am in a bit of a spot to know what to do, any suggestions gratefully accepted, kind regards, John Barrett

John,
Sorry, the reset that I referred to in point 4 is for the TV, not the aerial. The TV will not recognise the signal unless you carry out a full factory reset or First Time Installation each time you move to a new location.
This can normally be found in the Setup, Tuning or Installation menu on the TV.
If you fail to do this then the TV will assume that you are receiving the same signals as when you last tuned it.
Gerry

I don't use mine much.
When you say you've tried the socket on the outside, is that to plug in an aerial cable from an external antenna, or have you been trying to plug your TV into that? That socket is intended so e.g. when at a site with a boosted aerial distribution system (provided from the EHU bollard normally), you can use the communal site aerial. If you've plugged in a campsite site aerial and still got no signal, that indicates either a dodgy connection, or something wrong with your TV.
I notice you say it works ok with your radio. On mine there's only one output. Assuming yours is the same, you have put a proper impedence-balanced splitter to feed both the radio and TV haven't you? If not that'll be the issue. Or did you mean you've been disconnecting the output from the radio to connect it to the TV?
Have you played with the gain on the amplifier? In my experience the potentiometer on it is a bit flakey and benefits from a twist or two. Note also, if you're on the margin the act of walking around the MH can result in the signal fading in / out.
hi, Paul, thanks for the advice, I did not know the outside co-axial socket was for that purpose. have yet to use a camp site yet , only used the motor home on a daily basis so far, I know it sounds crazy, but we have 3 elderly cats and have not ventured into taking them with us yet!
my booster has an extra socket for the radio, only fitted the radio today, so that isn't the problem.
I will try twisting the gain Knob, it is set to max
It does sound like a tuning problem. If your set has the option, make sure you select to over write the existing channels and not add to, as it will put the new channels at the end of the list. Everytime you move area you need to retune your tv to that area's frequencies. This you do via the menu on your tv. If you have the instructions to your aerial, just make sure you have the coax cables in the right places in the booster.
If you continue to have problems, contact me at work and ill see if I can help you further.
One other thing, which is specific to the 140/145 model we have... if you ever do go to a campsite with aerial disribution so do use that ouside aerial socket, be careful not to be an absent minded numpty like me and try to plug the aerial into the 12V socket supplied for the external pump (or vice versa, try to plug pump into aerial socket).
It does a good job of fusing pretty much all the 12V electrics in the van.
In my defence the two sockets are next to one another, and very similar looking in the dark.....
