Dear All

We would like to make more use of CLs that do not have EHU for the odd long weekend. We have always, up to now, selected sites with EHU but this of course excludes plenty of others.

I have considered a solar panel but as we store the van at home there is no problems with keeping it connected to the mains, also we use the van as much as possible throughout the year & I guess no sun equals no solar charge.

I am considering purchasing the small Honda generator EU10i. This would be used for a couple of hours a day to charge the battery through the onboard charger it would not be asked to power any appliances.

The van is basically 12v throughout (TV pace sky box & LED lighting) the fridge, hot water & cooking would be with a gas.

The battery charger is rated 230v @ 2.2 amps with an output to the battery as max 300W & 21amps.

Do you think that this is feasible with this small generator as the EU20i is rather more expensive plus large/heavy to store?

Many thanks.

We've had an EU10i for about five years now and it's been absolutely fine.

For the sort of usage you indicated you should have no problems at all. Just remember to change the oil regularly, as per handbook instructions.

A 1000 VA generator would be more that adequate for your battery charging.
I have a Kipor IG1000 for sale - pm me if you're interested.
It's as-new but has been superseded by a solar panel!

Hi Bobmc

I would recommend you go the 100W Solar Panel route, no problem with petrol and the like, just stick the Solar Panel on the roof and forget about it.

Much better as you are already running on 12V

Best Regards
Broom

I agree. Do you really need a noisy generator?

Look at Mr Punch's advice on marriage. Generators can be annoying to others even at a distance. This is especially true on CL's and CS's where it is usually very quiet.

Speaking of Punch. I've seen this as the outcome of generator use at Disneyland! Shocked

Go for the solar panel. I have a small genny that I lug around as well but never use. Only needed it twice in 7 years.
Solar work even on a cloudy day.

Andy

Almost the same scenario here. I have now got solar and have not needed the genny since.

So I also have a nice small genny for sale, a Sterling 1000w silent model which is as new.
