Free view ready is an odd phrase. Either it has or has not got freeview and nowadays the digital receiver is built in. HD ready means that it will display HD pictures and has a suitable connection but it does not have HD decoders so you need an extra box.
Thanks my fault yes it is a brand new Tv and has freeveiw. Do I need a seperate aerial or casn I use my satalite?
Paul
If you want "Freeview" which is terrestrial only you will need an aerial but if you have a satellite dish and box you should be able to connect that to the new TV via either Scart or HDMI cables.
(or even just Free to Air satellite) are not the same thing and are not interchangeable terms as each line up has slightly different range of channels.

It should work with your ordinary aerial if it is a good one and the signal is strong enough. You cannot simply plug your satellite into the TV. It should have a scart input and you can plug a sky, freesat, or free to air box into that scart and the satellite dish into the satellite box.

Sorry to jump onto this thread but I was only talking about this the other day to the wife. She asked me if it is possible to buy a TV that runs off our caravan and has both freeview/satellite and DVD built in. This came up in conversation because the wife was giving me a hard time due to our "spaghetti juction" TV setup! For once I'm inclined to agree with her!

In our experience, where Freeview digital broadcasting is up and running, the signal is so good that any old aerial plugged into the Aerial socket on the tv ( not the scart or hdmi sockets) will do the job.
Your TV will probably require you to select a Source, which may be something like "DTV" . ( If you were using a satellite box, you would have to select "SCART" or similar if that is how your box connects to the TV set.)
Digital broadcasts use differing channels in different parts of the country, so you will have to install afresh each time you settle in a different location. The display will guide you through the process, but you should look for "first time installation", as this will erase previously stored data and start anew for the area in which you are located.
As noted by others, the range of channels on Freeview is not the same as those available via Freesat.
Abroad, most European countries are now broadcasting digitally for some of their channels, and your TV's installation process will automatically find those which are available. Be prepared for some rubbish.
