Over the past few weeks I have been setting up at various locations.

I use a Status 530 connected to a Meos with built-in DTV.

It is normally quite easy to get the BBC Channels even if a bit off beam with aerial orientation.

It is also possible, by swinging the aerial, to pick up most of the ITV and commercial channels, but I find it difficult to find a direction which will receive a combinatio of all of them.

On the basis that nearby house aerials are fixed in one direction, why cannot I find a similar direction which picks up everthing?

Since you've had that problem at several different locations, you are either unlucky or there is something wrong with the connections or set up. Various thoughts:
1) Have you used automatic scanning / searching for new channels and at the same time replacing all existing stored channels? That is the best way.
2) Presumably you are using an aerial booster and it is switched on and to maximum strength.
3) Check the aerial connections at all ends.
4) You've only mentioned BBC and ITV - what about other digital channels? Can you get those? Can you get analogue channels and if so are you sure that you've selected the correct digital / analogue source?
5) Try the TV with an aerial that you know works to see what happens.
6) Try a different TV with the Status aerial to see what happens.

Peribro Thanks

Re 1) 2) and 3) Yes I do this at all locations.

Re 4) I did say channels (plural) so I can easliy get BBC 1,2,3,4, CBBC and strangely ITV3 without any problem.

Likewise I can move the aerial a few degrees and get the ITV ChannelS plus Yesterday, Jazeera, Russia Today and all the shopping stuff ( but never Sky News). However with the aerial pointing in that direction I often lose the BBC group of channels.

I will try 5) and 6)

I am wondering whether it is an impedence problem within my TV cabinet. There is quite a lot of spare coaxial tail to the Status even when fully extented and it is difficult to separate it from the power supply cables to/from the booster and also the supply to the TV. So when I turn the mast a few degrees there is some change in the juxtaposition of the various cables.

If the shielding on the coaxial were damaged could that produce these symptoms?

Any other help welcome

Geoff

Are you picking up signals from two different transmitters? I guess one of them must be Crystal Palace. Do you retune from scratch after you have moved the areial? It might be worth putting your location into >this site< to see which is the best transmitter for you and if other transmitter could provide a signal. Pick the best one and try and get all from that.

Thanks peedee

I have tried re-tuning after moving a few degrees but same result.

I have used that antennae seeker site previously but often I am parked in some country lane and do not know grid ref. nor postcode. I usually note direction of house aerials in the area before I park.

At home in SW London I have no problem - 112degrees to Crystal Palace and I get everything.

HI We have just the same problem with our status 530, it sends me absolutely nutty, even using a signal strength meter we can never get itv and bbc pointing in the same direction. In fact IMO the whole thing is a total waste of money and we now have an auto sat dish which is brilliant. we only ever try to use the Status rubbish as last resort if we have a tree blocking the Satellite.

Michael thanks.

One other thought, am I right in assuming that the 'front' of the aerial is the apex of the triangle and not the base?

The only other thing I can think of is it maybe a characteristic of the 530 aerial and the transmitted power of the individual channels. They are not all transmitted at the same power level. Its rather technical and I am not so sure I fully have it clear in my mind but the reception pattern of the aerial for different frequencies and transmitter powers would appear to be marked enough to give this effect? It is after all a wide band aerial and is trying to be all encompassing whereas a house aerial is more than likely designed to receive only a band of signals and is likely to offer higher gain and more consistent reception.

I wonder if you get the same results with the status flying saucer which I would think would have a more uniform reception pattern. I have certainly not had the effects you describe with it.

When you have tuned in to the digital channels using the menu system there should also be a menu item titled 'signal information'.
Go to this and you should get graphic to show how strong the signal is.
Using the screen you should be able to fine tune the direction of the ariel.

It also helps sometimes to tune into an anologue signal to get the general direction of any transmitter.
