Hello,

I have been asked to do some Photos this afternoon in Church. It is just a small ceremony, no professional photographer.

I have told them I am only a long time Amateur but they have insisted.

I want to do the settings manually.

What do we recommend for indoors, no flash?

I was thinking 1600 ISO?
Not sure about setting up Shutter and aperture.

What do you think folks?

I am not sure whether you can adjust the white balance on the D40 but if you can, and you may have to go into the menus, you should set it on whatever type of lighting there is in the church.

Next you need a reasonable depth of field so I would go for maybe F5.6 assuming a standard lens. Then the speed needs to be faster than 1/30th if you are hand holding. You can set the ISO that will give you these settings in auto mode and set the camera to manual to retain the settings.

Hope this helps

David

PS I wouldn't go much above 1600 iso - rather increase aperture

Take the pictures outside the church with the sun.
Do the standard set of settups well in advance, bridesmades best man etc if you can.
For pics after the ceromony you have to take charge and order people around to get in the right places quickly as the next wedding will be along soon. Keep em tight!

Oh and I have done ONE wedding! so you are listening to an expert!!

Good luck

C.

I got talked into photographing a wedding last year. I can't help with your indoor settings as I just used the auto setting, but I do have the following advice.

1. Get somebody, the best man is good, to round up people for you. Otherwise you will waste a lot of time doing this.

2. Use a tripod, you will get much sharper pictures and (more importantly?) look the part.

3. Take lots of photographs, some of them are bound to be good.

4. Use the control which allows you to keep taking photographs for as long as you press the button, this is called continuous on my camera. Taking four shots at the same time means that at least one of them will have everybody with their eyes open. Very Happy

Sandy

Wish you the best, I have been photographing weddings for the past 25 years and we reckon I am on my 998th, so almost a 1000

and I still get nervous on the day of one, can't speak about anything else and concentrate as if my life depends on it.

The best advice I can give you is keep it simple............

Oh and if you mess up don't worry about remembering today, the bride will be remind you often enough, but hey no pressure then Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
