I think you have answered your own question. If you want a really good, dependable generator, buy a (real) Honda. If not, buy cheap and be prepared for it to break down and replace it with a new one. Having said that, there are lots of happy Kipor users on this forum.

SDMO is based in France and their main business is very large generators. The portable suitcase units are merely a sideline for them and I think, sourced from the Far East. When I enquired about a suitcase model from an SDMO distributor in the Midlands, they told me they had just one left as they did not really want to deal in them - their main business was supplying and servicing static industrial units.

Honda by comparison, specialise in portable power and have a well developed international network of dealers and service agents. And they are made in Japan (well, mine was).

I guess you pays yer money and takes yer choice!

I have had a Kipor for around 3 years now, our two lots of friends have Kipors and none of us have a any problems. Its a case of how much you think you are going to use the genny. If you think its likely to be heavy daily use then maybe a Honda would be best. Our friend uses his Kipor much more frequently than we do and he says he has logged a couple of hundred hours without any problems. Others I have heard have had bits fall off so I guess its down to use and care. Our Honda lawn mower has broken down twice in two years but repaired under warranty. Machinery does break down so if you go for the Kipor then just make sure you know the dealer in case you do have a problem. It seems to me that many of the grumbles associated with Kipor have been dealer problems as much as anything.
