Hi,

we've recently bought a Knaus Sun Ti 06 Plate on a Renault Master dci 120 and it seems that, in spite of spending upwrds of 40k on a vehicle, it hasn't come fitted with the trip computer and I miss knowing things like fuel consuption, temperature etc.

Do you know whether it is possible to have the trip computer fitted as an after-market item?

I did phone a Renault garage, who gave me a flat 'no', but somebody may know differently?

Morph.

You could have something like this as a posh additional box;

http://www.touratech.com/shops/008/product_info.php?cPath=10_83&products_id=4250

or a gps will probably have one or more trip computers, or just use a push bike cycle computer with careful cable routing, £9.99! Many kit car owners do just that.

We've got a Sat Nav, and the 'van has an Odometer, so mileage isn't really an issue - I suppose it's more the fuel consumption I'm after.

Ah ha! I think that's exactly what I was looking for - I never knew such a thing existed. Seems like a perfect solution.

many thanks for the pointer - I can feel a purchase coming on!

An update to this tale for anybody who is interested. I bought a Scangauge 2 from UKOBD, which duly arrived a few days later.

However, it does NOT work with my 06 plate Renault Master 120dci.

I was a bit put out by this, as the Scangauge Website gives the impression that all vehicles manufactured in Europe after 2004 were obliged to support the EOBD or OBDII protocols (and, therefore, would work with the Scangauge).

Evidently this wasn't the case with mine and UKOBD said "if you'd have asked us, we'd have said that supporting the diagnostic protocols wasn't compulsory on Light Goods vehicles until 2007"

UKOBD refunded most of my money, so I'm not too bitter about it. I'm more disappointed by the fact that it didn't work and that therefore I still don't have a means of measuring fuel consumption, approx miles remaining etc., all of which the Scangauge promised to deliver (and, indeed did when i plugged it into my 03 VW Passat).

so. back to the original Question:

Does anybody know whether it is possible to retro-fit a trip computer to an 06 plate Renault Master 120dci?

Hi Morph,

There have been a number of comments on here that the built mpg calculators that are built in to vehicles are not that accurate. The speedo will read high and you might fit different profile tyres etc. which could make it even worse.

Maybe I am just a sad old Dinosaur but I have a diary in the van. I log (and keep) my fuel and gas receipts and note my mileage at the start and end of any trip we make. It is a good way to kill some time on those miserable rainy afternoons, wprking out your mpg Embarassed

I find the diary invaluable for details of any stops we have made or any likely spots we have driven past.

Only joshing, we seem to be forgetting how to do things without using our brains.

Like people crossing the road, no traffic for miles but they press the button, by the time the light changes there's queue, what happened to look right, look left, look right again, and if the road is clear walk straight across.
