Just a heads up in case it happens to anyone here.
My 2005 Tranny mk6 has been stuttering from stone cold for a few years. Only at first and maybe second junction and after 1-2 mins it was fine. It never did stall so wasn't a big issue.
Also - temperature was slightly below half for the last few years -again no real issues.
Recently the tranny stalled 15 mins into a journey, and after a restart or two it was fine.
Not going to say its 100% a solution as I only did it Sunday, but van has been perfect since then. But if anyone else is in a similar position you may want to consider this.
(Also - apparently - there are benefits from disconnecting the EGR especially on vehciles where there is no monitoring of them)
Hope this is a useful idea for someone now or in the future

I've tagged my post onto this one as I suspect that this may be my problem but would appreciate the thoughts of the OP or any other experts out there!
Sold off Hettie in the UK and bought a new van based on a 2008 Ford Transit 2.2 tdci 130CV (what are these CVs by the way? Are they HP and if not what HP have I got?) over in France.
The van has only done 2267 km and we collected it last Saturday and set off for the one hour drive from Beziers area back home. After only about 10 miles and on a fast dual carriageway there was a bit of a clunk and a whooshing sound and I thought a roof vent had blown open - it was that sort of sound. Pulled off at an exit that was just coming up and checked round the outside - no problems.
Started up again and pulled off but noticed some loss of power and a noise from the engine - best described as rattly. Looked under bonnet but couldn't see anything loose or broken (mechanical nitwit!) so decided to drive on and see what happened. Had about 25 miles to get home on mostly flat roads and could get up to about 80 kph in fourth - wouldn't do fifth. Last few miles is up a long very shallow incline and had to go down to third to maintain even 60kph.
Ready to go into local garage on Friday to do battle with my limited technical French to try and get sorted.
My initial reaction was that it was a turbo problem but all my research here and on Tranny websites points out at EGR and I reckon that the lack of miles and being driven has worked against this van resulting in the thing just becoming sticky and misbehaving.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated for when I take it to the garage on Friday.
Incidentally, I have bought it from some very nice British people who are happy to help me out and will foot the bill so don't bombard me with outraged buyer's rights issues - this is a problem for both of us that we will resolve.
Regards
Brian

babyrhino sounds like a turbo pipe has blown off. These are 3 inch pipes that go from turbo outlet to intercooler and then back to engine inlet. If the boost is not getting to the engine you will have very reduced power. I would check these pipes first as you may just need to pop it back on and tighten up a jubilee clip. Have a look as it may save a trip to garage.
As I said, I'm a bit of a mechanical no-hoper but I have had a good rummage round under the bonnet (why don't they give you more room?) and I can't see anything that is obviously disonnected.
In fact it looks like an engine that has only done 1500 miles in three years!
I've never understood why people set so much store by low mileage on motorhomes - these are commercial workhorses that do 250,000 without blinking (usually!). I think that lack of work is much more likely to work against an engine - I may be lacking in knowledge but these things are designed to be driven and not to sit around letting their insides get all sludgy.

The turbo pipes probably go right to the front on the engine bay. The intercooler is normally in front of the radiator, so the pipes have to go there.
To be honest low mileage WITHOUT at least an oil service each year is BAD. Oil is designed to hold on to the nasty combustion by products that corrode an engine. So if it's not changed at least every 12 months the contaminants will be doing some damage.
One good thing about MH is that the low mileage is very rarely due to lots of short trips which kill engines. Engines wear most in the warming up period.
Good news and thanks to Ched999UK who was spot on! the trouble was a disconnected large pipe somewhere in the bowels of the engine as a result of a duff jubilee clip. Found and fixed by a helpful French mechanic for a few euros - and taking your other advice have now booked it in with him for an oil change next Friday!
