Hi all,

I'm looking to move up from a compact camera to a bridge camera and have narrowed it down to either the Fuji HS 10 or the Nikon P100. Does anyone have any advice on either of these ?

Which internet Forums do you find best for photography and where is the cheapest good reliable place to buy from ?

Cheers, Simon.

A good forum - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/

And take a look here http://www.pbase.com/cameras for sample photos taken by cameras/lenses, but if they are new models there may not be many to look at if any

A good shop that's local to me http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/index.htm

Edit - check for prices at http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk , not always the cheapest though but its a good place to start
http://www.warehouseexpress.com

For accessories - http://www.7dayshop.com

http://www.onestop-digital.com/ Hong Kong based but guarantee to refund any taxes if you have to pay any, I've bought lenses from here and save a fortune

Hello,

I have always had pentax/Nikon.

I couple of years ago I bought a Fuji digital camera. It was rubbish enough in good light. At night or indoors, useless.

Changed to a Nikon D40, MAGIC.

All I can offer!

If you buy from Warehouse Express make sure that you use a credit card and never a debit card.

The company is currently trading at a big loss.

I usually walk into the vast emporiums, full of attractive cameras tv`s video, sound systems and accesories.
Stumble up to the most attractive female assistant and ask for an idiot proof camera.

Last two have been Canon.
More than adequate for my needs.
An example with a telephoto lens.

Not true, a Visa debit card can be better for small purchases under £100.

A VISA debit card has the same chargeback facility as a credit card but without the minimum £100 purchase restriction of the Consumer Credit Act.

Please note that I was replying to an enquiry about someone wishing to buy a camera. I suspect that it may be over £100!

The Visa charge-back is not a legal guarantee:

From your first link:

"Chargeback is nowhere near as strong as Section 75. The key difference is that when you complain on a credit card under Section 75, the credit card company itself is legally liable, with Chargeback it's just about the Visa process and that is nowhere near as weighty. It’s also the case that you can’t take the issue to court if your bank won’t pay up."

This is from the second link:

"Chargeback is not enshrined in law like section 75, but is part of the Visa Scheme Rules, which participating banks subscribe to. It applies to all Visa debit cards, and can also be used for Visa credit card purchases where section 75 is not applicable – for goods costing less than £100 for instance. It also covers prepaid Visa cards and Visa Electron purchases."

I repeat - if buying a camera from Warehouse Express, use a credit card!

I have a Fuji HS10. Very pleased with it, great photos and most of the bells and whistles that you will find on a DSLR.
Fantastic zoom and no need to carry an assortment of lenses. The only issue is one that you will also find on a DSLR and that is the flash. It is quite pathetic, but Metz make accessory flashguns that will fit.

Please also note I was referring to small purchases and yes a bridge camera from WE is likely to be over the CCA cut off point.
However you did not specify that - you just said "If you buy from Warehouse Express make sure that you use a credit card and never a debit card." without further qualification nor any mention of "camera" - I did specify "under £100".

Furthermore the CCA provisions maybe "enshrined in law" but that does not stop lenders making your statutory rights very difficult to get - I managed it over Speedferries but it took a lot of work.
