Ok not long had my first motor home as I have been a Tugger for 25 years, I knew I had to change the way certain things were done now I had a Motorhome. To this end one of the main conciderations was the bedding. well I came across the Duvalay and subsequently went and priced this up. Now I don not mind paying for things but one thing I do hate is paying over the odds, What does a Duvaly consist of really , 3 main parts - Memory Foam Mattress, Single Duvet and a double bag type cover,

so with that in mind what would the individual components cost in real terms, Check EBAY for Memory Foam Mattresses Single and Double (I got 2 Singles 2" Thick 2' 6" Wide for less than £60) Asda for single Duvet 2 for £16 and also Asda for 4 Singel Duvet Sets for under £40

So far all the items required to make 2 for lees than the proce of 1 Duvalay

So how are they constructed - very simply - take 2 single duvet covers and aange long sides together and Machine sew leaving 15" at top end not sewn, *Mayabe a couple of passes down long side for strength*
along the bottom edge you now have both oppenings Top one for Duvet and Bottom one for Memeory Foam. I decided to stich Middle two edges at bottom together to seal botttom edge but still enable Duvet and Memeory foam to be easilly removed. these were stittched about 2 " from bottom to allow both pockets to be able to be Buttoned ot press studded together. As to colour well thats really down to peronal choice and preference but the main thing is that you can get a far wider choice of colour.

Hopefully this si sufficient information for you should you like me decide to make your own version.

Overall total including Stiching for 2 still came under cost of 1 duvaley but you also have a far wider choice of type of Duvet you may wish to use.

We do not own a sewing machine but good lady asked a friend who was more than willing to sew together for us (just for the cost of a bottle of ..........)

Nowadays the costs of Single Duvet Covers from the big variety of shops out there then probably someone willl come up with an even cheaper version and no doubt so could have I but I do require these for this weekend ............... Very Happy

This sounds very good (I confess even after watching the video I couldn't really understand how the duvalay worked Embarassed - now I see!).

I'm assuming this rolls up like a swiss roll for storage? Any chance you could tell me roughly how big one "roll" is? I'd like to make one, but only if it will fit in my locker! Smile

Thanks for a good idea and clear explanation!

forgot to mention due to colour coordinated duvet covers the other half got I had to get them made right and left handed. Again that is purely down to clour and choice.

Hi John,
Thanks for that. I only have one underbed locker and that's half-filled with the batteries but with a bit of luck I'd still fit a single one in (I only need the one); perhaps I can attach some compression-type straps to it.

hello

We use one of those space bags from places like Betterware. Roll up the bedding put it in the bag & partly zip the top & using the little 12v dust buster suck air out of the bag seal bag and hey presto bedding is now taking up half the space.
