I accidentally posted this on the end of another thread when I should have started a new one. Mods, can you delete it from the other thread please?

I have a Hobby Van Exclusive L, 2010 model on a Transit 140 bhp.

Silly question, but does it have an alarm of any kind? I can't check as it's in my warehouse miles away and I'm trying to get on-line insurance quotes and they're all asking me about security.

I know that it has deadlocks (two pushes of the remote) and there's a light flashes on the dash when it's locked but I've never really checked to see if it has an audible alarm for instance.

I tend to take a built-in alarm for granted as both private cars came with one factory-fitted. Does anyone know if my latest model Tranny came with one?

Thanks,

HF

I do know that without the correct key it will not start - it is electronically coded to the fuel pump.

Mine didn't come with an alarm (2008 2.2 FWD) & it doesn't have deadlocks either, or even a locking key fob! Locking is manual only. It probably depends on what your converter ordered. We had a Thatcham category 1 alarm fitted by the dealer, although we found out later that they actually farmed the job out. They fitted a Cobra, not the best IMHO.
If you visit the Transit forum website you can get a complete print out of the build specification of your particular Transit from the Ford Etis system. I looked at mine to see if the lack of deadlocks & key fobs was a mistake, but no, it was ordered with manual locks. Mad Mad Mad
Later Autoroller 200's do have the locking key fobs & presumably, deadlocks too.
AFAIK all Transits do come with an immobiliser.

I have a transit 2.2 140bhp 2009 (model dates from 2007) it has an immobiliser and is quoted as thatcham 2. From your description thats what is fitted to the Ford part. Obviously hobby may have upgraded it to cover the rear and include intruder detection.

Thanks folks. I know it has an immobiliser and it definitely has deadlocks. I'll try the recommended site to see if I can find the spec. There's no habitation alarm fitted by Hobby.

Because it has central locking and flashing lights I just assumed that, like my car it would have a noisy alarm but, having slept on it, it occurs to me that it certainly can't have a motion sensor alarm like my car, or an internal sensor in the cab area, or it would go off in the evening when we're locked up and moving around.

The only alarm that would be any use is on the doors and they are definitely deadlocked.

So presumably those of you that have an alarm retro-fitted must have a system that only works if the doors are forced when you're in the 'van, but will also protect the interior with sensors etc. when you're out of it?

Thanks for the tip. I found the site easily and my vehicle is listed but there's no info on whether it has any kind of alarm.

I'm beginning to think that it can't have one and that I'll have to get one fitted.

The standard "alarm" which is fitted to your hobby will protect cab doors and sometimes the bonnet. I good way to test it would be to lock the van with the bonnet open. (Will make a noise). Most retro fit alarms will protect all entry points into the van (thatcham standard) and has to be hard wired. Also they will have internal sensors if someone try's a window. You may find if you fit a thatcham Category 1 alarm you will geta bit of your insurance.

Phil

On some insurance you have to have a thatcham class one to even get cover. on others they give you a 5% discount, based on say £400 for the alarm is it worth it.I obviously thought it was. Very Happy

Thanks, that's what I was hoping but as I said, the 'van is miles away locked in my warehouse and I can't try it until Monday. I was hoping to get some quotes this weekend but it's proving difficult as I can't definitely say whether it has an alarm or not.

I hope that you're right! Very Happy
