Yes forgot and it did freeze the main pipe, so no water came out of the kitchen taps and bathroom taps... so I left the gas heating on low for for a day or so and now its all better, so what i have done is to drain all the water out of the system, the hot water was already dumped by means of the safety valve next to the trauma 6000 eh heater, there are two valves i have in the rear which also vent the remainder of the water out, where possible make sure you drain all water out of the water pipes... where the point of freezing occurred i have now put standard pipe lagging around the pipe, also I have left all the taps open including the shower taps and shower head removed. The grey water tank tap I have left open, the water pump I have removed and left it immersed in water at home just to make sure the pump remains ok, they seem not to like being out of water, if I left the pump in the water tank it might freeze and cause more expense... anyway this is what I do.... looking forward to hearing what others do...

Pleasure to try and help, there's other things as well the thetford loos, my flushing water comes from the main water tank so just make sure that is empty before removing the pump, the older loos the flushing tank is above the containment tank and should be drained..... lots more to think on but with this embedded cold weather one needs to think on these lines, and I'm away in 10 days time as well... we are off to roma.. for christmas and new year.... I drive down single crew... and the boss flies down on christmas eve... I dirgress.... there must be others with very good ideas.... just for the record, I do not have access to mains electric etc so the Hymer is left outside....Sad

Those who have ALDE/FRANKIA (maybe some other brands too). After draining the boiler by opening the yellow drain.

DON'T FORGET....

The two valves under the floor on the hot and cold pipes.

If you don't do these too, the pump freezes up.

and don't forget the little bowl on the filter just before the pump. It retains water, freezes and cracks. There's one under the kitchen sink waste pipe too.

Great stuff!

Why not collaborate and write a guide on this thead? Very Happy

You can chop it and hack it around as much as you like in this thread.

Let me know when it's ready and I'll transfer it to the Members Guides.

Diligence is everything but too much enthusiasm without forethought can create its own little foibles. My toilet water tank drain is in the cassette compartment. After locating the bung on a fairly chilly day, I was able to discover some of the joys of an ice cold shower down the front of my trousers, which finally, as the pressure diminished, filled the totally inaccessible space at the base of the cassette compartment. I should mention that it was accompanied by a not unpleasant smell from the rose flavoured flushing water.
I finally managed to suck out the inaccessible water with the tool for measuring the gravity of battery water using my now blue hands which had become a little unsteady owing to the symptoms of early frost bite settling in.
I hope that I can now sleep well, with a certain degree of confidence that my toilet will not be the weak link this winter. However my sleep is still troubled when I hear that the galloping horse has removed the water pump to save Jack Frost from disturbing his sleep.
I have put an electric greenhouse heater to, hopefully, keep the van just above freezing and opened every door and panel to allow the air to circulate. If I am missing something vital, please let me know.
Alan
