We have just bought an Autotrail 640G and will be loading/unloading my mobility scooter into the 'garage'.
We did buy a pair of ramps to use for this procedure but had the devil's own job getting it loaded when we collected the vehicle.
The angle of the ramps meant it was really hard to get the scooter onto the ramps due to it 'grounding' once it started up the slope and awkward to get it over the 'hump' at the top, so we are thinking it would be better to have a hoist of some kind fitted instead of needing to use the ramps.
Does anyone have one fitted that could let me know the make/model so I know what to look for on ebay or elsewhere?
As yet we have not been out even for a day in our new (first) motorcaravan due to the weather and we are hoping to get a hoist fitted asap to make things easier.
It took 2 (strong) people to load the scooter into the 'garage' and it would be so much nicer to be able to unload/load it as easily as I can with our Berlingo which has a hoist, allowing me to do my regular hospital trips on my own if necessary.
Thanks in advance
Elizabeth in Bournemouth

Hi Elizabeth

One of the problems with fitting a hoist in the garage area is that it will need something substantial to attach it to, not impossible but could prove difficult given the construction of the area

I have seen these type of ramps being used together with a small 12Volt winch to load a fairly large 4wheel buggy type chair, they extended to about 5ft and he was able to load single handed without grounding.
There are some similar types here, and also winches on other pages

I hope you can get out in the van soon

Chris
